Matt Brown vs Erick Silva in Cincinnati.
Fight was awesome
Either 8th or 9th grade, can’t remember which, but the 2 biggest and toughest guys in the school had been in an orbit towards conflict for some time. It came to a head after lunch one day in the school entry way. They squared up and one said to the other “take off your jacket” which he began to do. As his arms were back sliding the jacket off, the first guy drilled the jacket guy square in the jaw. Jacket guy stumbles back, stands for a moment, then throws his arms out and yells “RAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRR” and charges into the guy who’d thrown the first punch. Everyone just stood in awe as the two giants traded blows round and round. An older male teacher was the first to arrive and all he could do was stand to the side saying “stop, stop it, STOP IT I said!” over and over. Eventually a couple more teachers arrived and got the two to stop fighting. Even after they were led away we just stood there, dumbstruck at the battle we’d just witnessed.
Afterwards, as was customary at the time, they made somewhat of an amends and from then on had an unspoken but respectful truce.
I suppose my age factored into how impressive it was, but it has always been one of the best damned fights I’d ever seen.
Spencer Fisher vs Josh Neer. Epic with a rabid crowd.
I was also in attendance for Hendo vs Shogun and that might be the best one for me too.
Special mention for Anderson vs Chael 1. The build up and everything made that one really special but what took place in the cage was better with Hendo/Shogun.
Saw Ricky Hatton stop Kostya Tzu in Manchester for the IBF light welter title. Atmosphere was nuts and the fight was pretty wild. OP wins the thread tho cause Shogun Vs Hendo 1 is my all time favourite mma fight. First ever 5rd non title main event. So glad i stayed up till 6am to watch it live but to see in the flesh must’ve been electric.
Fedor VS Crocop
At that time it was the fight that would define who would be the best of the best
Worst fight I ever saw live was Schaub v. Johnson
That fight fuckin pissed me off and really kicked off my hatred for Bapa
Thats where the schaub shutdown begins
damn i would’ve loved to see pride.
Cant be topped…one of the most iconic fights ever
Robbie Lawler VS Rory MacDonald @ UFC 189
Arguably the greatest fight of all time in any sport.
Back in the day, I was hoping to see Tito vs Shamrock for my bday but it was sold out. Instead, I was able to get tickets to WFA the night after. Saw Tito in person. The dude’s head is way bigger in person. Anyways, I saw Frank Trigg vs Dennis Hallman. It sounded like a home run hit when Trigg kicked Hallman in the balls. Then I watched on the big screen, Hallman pulling his short’s waistband out and telling his cornermen to look at his balls.
I’ll never forget that night as long as I live. Only MMA event I’ve been to and while the main event ended with a guy showing off his busted balls to his cornermen, at least it wasn’t a forgettable 5 round grind fest.
Tito vs Shamrock at UFC 40?
I was there as well. Man that arena erupted after Brown won.
The whole card was great.
Carwin/Lesnar. People were losing their minds. I was shocked that Lesnar had so many fans at the fight. When he finished him the fucking place erupted into about 50% cheers and 50% Screaming “NOOOO!!!”
Not truly a fight but sort of … one of the guys in my unit got into it verbally outside a bar with a big Samoan civilian when we had a overnight refueling and repair layover coming back from ‘Nam in Hawaii. It escalated to just shoving. A navy SP shows up and tries to cool it off. The big Samoan guy swings on the SP who blasts him over the head with his baton. It made a sound like a busted watermelon. Big Samoan goes down to one knee and comes back up with blood streaming down his face. Says to the SP … "Brudda, don’t you ever do that again. I ain’t’ in your damn navy." Two more SP’s show up and the Samoan dude whips all three of them and just goes back into the bar to drink some more.
