n this video, we explore the dramatic and complex story of Randy Couture and his troubled relationship with UFC President Dana White. Couture was right in many of his complaints but I don’t know who his lawyer was that advised him he could get out of his contract by just saying, ‘I haven’t retired, I’ve resigned from my UFC employment hence I can fight anywhere.”
The Underground at the time was pretty unanimous in thinking that’s probably not gonna work lol

It should be able to work. If you wanna quit your job you should be able to. If ufc can cut you when you have fights remaining you should be able to quit with fights remaining imo

It would make sense if the UFC guaranteed you some percentage of your contract regardless if are cut or not but it is crazy that you can’t quit but you can be fired, even after a win.

It’s not that he didn’t have a point, but he should have known they were going to tie him up in court because otherwise every fighter would just resign from their employment whenever they felt like it.
They were never going to just let their champion walk away and setup an indpendent big money event for themselves vs Fedor (at the time viewed as the real hw champ).
