Gomi was the best LW in the world for a long time. KO power in both very fast hands, very aggressive, iron chin, vicious knees, and good wrestling.
His only real threat was Penn, but BJ started bouncing around weight classes, leaving Gomi as the king. Penn beat Gomi, and that’s a great win on his resumé. I don’t think Gomi had peaked yet when they fought, though.
Gomi in the UFC was past his prime and had mileage. He took a lot of Ls later in his career against far lesser fighters. Sadly, that happens a lot in mma.
Gomi was king of the fuckin world when he fought, in his prime, how he would do against a modern fighter means fuck all. No one is good when you look at it like that except the flavor of the month fighter.
