Alex Pereira vs Prime Crocop

Here’s another phenomenon I’ve noticed about most fight fans. They hate fighters. I’m not kidding. Bring up a hypothetical match up like this and watch how many people will go out of their way to claim that a world champion actually sucks. These are two of the best fighters in human history. Why do so many people feel the pathetic need to try to diminish their accomplishments?

I don’t think it is unfair. It’s not fair to assume a bad future for Poatan. We only know what Poatan has done so far, and we know what Cro Cop did. I don’t think you can give, or take away, based on Poatan’s future.

Also, Poatan is 37. He’s doing all these great things at an advanced age.

lol This is emotional and wild.

Mirko is elite. I’ve been meaning to say so because I think some of his supporters have been pointing that out as if I, or some of the other people saying Poatan would beat him, think otherwise. Mirko was an elite striker and I keep meaning to say so.

Freeze Mirko in 2006 and you could say the exact same thing.

I know very well how MMA works. Someone is the guy who looks untouchable. Then he’s not. Everyone has gone through it. Everyone except for Jon.

Mirko was the guy, until he wasn’t. Fedor was the guy until he wasn’t. Werdum, Stipe, ect.

Every one of those guys had a steep and sharp drop-off after their peaks.

It’s unreasonable to assume AP will avoid that fate if he keeps fighting

Yeah you are right. Mirko would be a little bit smaller than AP prime vs prime. Mirko was 220-230 in his prime. He is a bit shorter than Alex.

Mirko is probably stronger but it would only matter on the ground.

But we know what happened with Mirko after 2006 (and he had four losses before 2006).

We don’t know what good or bad things will happen in Poatan’s career going forward. We can’t give him credit or hold anything negative against him, for the future.

But based on what they’ve both shown, Poatan looks better. And he’s 37.5.

I don’t know about that. GSP never fell off. A lot of fighters stayed great until an advanced age by combat standards AND THEN fell off. Not Mirko, and not Fedor, as they fell off sooner than fighters often do. You mentioned Stipe but he was great until his late 30s. Anderson stayed on top of his game until he was old enough that he had every right to fall off. Cormier was awesome until he was in his late 30s. Couture. The list goes on. It’s not just Jon Jones who maintained a high level past 31 lol.

Goes to your credit as a gentleman that you can concede a point.

Lol not conceding, just agreeing. I never said Mirko was bigger to begin with.

Cormier and Couture were also old when they started. As was Alex. They all started in their 30’s, so it’s no surprise they didn’t fall off at 31.

This whole age thing is such a silly argument

Mirko came to MMA at 26, after already having an epic career in kickboxing. And while being full time military and or special forces the entire time. And at heavyweight. No wonder AP is better at 34 than him.

Cormier and Couture wrestled all their lives. They weren’t coddling their bodies. Couture also served in the military.

Poatan came over to MMA later than Cro Cop, but that just means he spent more time getting bashed in the head while he did pure kickboxing longer. Again, Poatan has been fighting for a long time, either as a kickboxer or an MMA fighter.

And AP is 37.5 and he’s at the top of the 2024 UFC light heavyweight division. That is hyper elite stuff. He’s doing this at the most modern skill level.

Do you know how bad Kevin Randleman would look in today’s UFC light heavyweight division?

About like he did in the rematch with Mirko?

AP is 12 years removed from his professional debut.

For Mirko that would be 2007, right as he’s 1-0 in the UFC, before he had fallen off.

I didn’t realize that Mirko fans are like BJ Penn fans

Randleman would wrestle fuck every LHW in the UFC today. That’s why people think when Chimaev is ready he could take the LHW title because of his grappling.

In kickboxing Cro Cop undoubtedly fought better guys, that is not debatable.

In MMA its close, but once again Mirko fought a lot of fellow legends while Poatan has only fought a few. Hes still got time to catch up though and i have no doubt that he could.

Almost everyone youre debating said its close and could go either way; you are the only person saying youre certain of the outcome.

What you just said is very contradictory.

Come on dude, you are missing 99% of the point. CroCop fought at a much, much bigger weight all his career. And had DEVESTATING knock out power at that higher weight, and while he got KO’d several times in his career, again it was to huge powerhouses (mostly at least).

Poatan has gotten hit and has hit much, much smaller people his whole career. If he DID go up to 220 to fight CroCop, his punches would carry far, far less effect than they did at the lower weight classes, and the punches he would be eating would be far, far more powerful than the punches he has been eating at the lower weight classes.

There is no way little Poatan beats big Cro Cop, no matter how much weight Poatan puts on. Its seriously rediculous to think otherwise…

All the more reason to believe me. You guys are all wishy-washy and uncertain, and I have a clear and confident vision.

Light-heavyweight is essentially 220 pounds.

Oh boy lol i see your problem now.

You dont have a clear vision when youre ignoring facts and context.

And definitely not if youre trying to say AP fought better guys in kickboxing.

Once again i like them both the same, maybe even Alex a little more. I just dont have to pick one over the other because its such a close match up it could go either way. That doesnt come from a lack of knowledge; its the opposite.
