Prayers have been pouring in following the death of an MMA fighter in Alberta, Canada just days ago.
Trokon Dousuah was a beloved father and personal trainer native to Edmonton. He threw his name into the hat to compete at a charity MMA show; an event that allowed novices to test themselves in the ever-growing sport.
After a three-round affair at the Enoch community center, Dousuah managed to get his hand raised. However, events took a tragic turn when the 33-year-old became unsteady on his feet.
Staff helped Dousuah out of the cage and into the back room where he stayed for around 40 minutes, according to fellow amateur MMA fighter Natalia Rajkovic.
Dousuah was taken to a local hospital where he later died. The circumstances of his death are now under investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police amid the justified uproar in the days since the fatal incident.
Concerns have risen surrounding the event’s safety, with Rajkovic speaking out against the promotion for its clear lack of health regulations.
“I absolutely think it could have been prevented in so many different ways,” Rajkovic told CTV News. “Starting from the medicals, if he was properly taken care of.”
The event, hosted by Ultra MMA, has been under fire since the death of Trokon Dousuah. According to Enoch Nation, the mixed martial arts organization privately rented their facilities and separately provided staff.
“Unfortunately, Ultra MMA privately rented our facility and hired their own staffing team,” Enoch Nation said in a statement following the death of Dousuah.
“So, our staff were not present during the event and have no information to share at this time.”
While the cause of Trokon Dousuah’s death isn’t apparent, the rules surrounding his amateur bout could have played a huge role in that.
The card featured over 30 fighters but forced each athlete to weigh in on the same day as fight night. Weight cutting has long been an issue in the sport, often causing serious implications for fighters.
Is this the second death in a couple weeks? Not good
This might be the same one I posted about a week or so ago.
Oh Shit , missed it ? Just came up today on feed .
I thought that dude had collapsed in the ring though. This guy walked out on his own. I don’t think the other guys name was given though, so can’t confirm.
Never mind, it is the same guy. Rip
