Hes a great fighter, but hes not a finisher. Hes not a berserker like Poatan is.
Only way i think he wins is by making it a boring grappling match. And i believe that more than ever after his performance yesterday.
Are there even any examples of Ank’s grappling out there? I don’t really watch his fights but have literallly never seen it.
Ive seen about half of his fights and i really dont remember one where he had a grapple heavy gameplan; he has no submission victories if i remeber correctly.
His grappling is decent, but im not sure hes this elite grappler that hes been portrayed as; i could be wrong since i havent taken the time to watch all of his fights.

He has gotten some takedowns here and there in his career, but mostly just from catching kicks and dumping people rather than actually chasing takedowns.
He (almost) never actively tries to grapple. The only time he did was when Jan beat up his legs so bad that he could barely stand.
Plus when he has gotten takedowns, he’s been pretty average from the top.
In general people seem to just assume he’s a great grappler because he’s a combat sambo champion and they don’t know there’s a difference between sambo (which is grappling) and combat sambo (which is full fighting).
I didn’t watch the fight last night but I thought Jan beat him, and Magomed’s performance there was underwhelming.
They are throwing away all of this potential with Pereria vs Jones or Aspinhall. Instead they are pushing this Stipe fight that is going to make Jones AND Stipe look bad, and have AP fight some boring nobody, that NOBODY gives a fuck about seeing fight.
