Early fights that made you think a fighter would be great / were you right or wrong

Haha I don’t like musicals normally but went to see that in The West End with work and it was brilliant…and I managed to stay awake!

My pick would be KJ Noons, great start but he just couldn’t stop touching his hair during his later fights and was a shell of himself that fought Nick in EliteXc.

This is a good one.

Felt like anyone not Big Nog was in trouble.
Then the Hoost fights.

People joke about him now, with good reason.
But around 02/03 he was a very big problem.

Dude how are you falling asleep at concerts and fights?

Do you drive?

Not in a few years, no. If it’s dark for some reason I just nod off watching things that relax me. I’ll get an early night watching TV and fall asleep but need a sleep aid to actually fall asleep most nights when the TV’s turned off.

I thought Rumble Johnson was going to win a title for sure. RIP

What killed him?

Yup, that was him.

Still don’t remember the black dude with the bald head and goatee that caveman rag dolled that dude into the cage but that was the only thing he really did.

Wasn’t Eastman cause I remember that dude had that deep ass cut on his forehead courtesy of Vitor (?).

Houston Alexander?

Shonie Carter…

He gets his face busted open, should have gotten stitches, instead goes home and super glues his face close himself.

And fights the next weekend.

That’s when I knew he would make the UFC.

That was a knee IIRC.

I thought David Louiseau was gonna be more than he ended up being in the ufc.

There was that tough winner - was sorta albino-ish or had vitiligo- that I thought would be a force but never really put it together- forgot his name.

Also thought that pretty boy sage might do better than he did. He was a huge bust from his initial hype.

Too many to name really, but those 3 popped up immediately

Shavkat had the makings of something great right out the gate. He seems to be living up to the hype.

Gsp always seemed special

Brandon moreno was always gonna be a fun fighter to watch, even if he has lost some of the bigger fights.

I think the first GSP fight i saw was vs Pete Spratt.
Could definitely tell he was going to make a dent.

I said something like “he’s the MMA version of JCVD”

2 guys I went very early on claiming they would be champions were Roger Huerta and Lyoto Machida.
So I’m going at 50%.

Marco Ruas primarily from the way the announcers talked him up.

I remember him chopping Paul Varlens down like a tree with leg kicks, and thinking this is a bigger Royce Gracie who can strike.

Didn’t last long.

I think Oleg beat him the next UFC.

One that stands out would be Mighty Mouse and his first couple of Ammy fights, and hearing about how we was in the gym from various AMC peeps.

I figured if he wanted to, he could probably make a run at this whole fighting thing.

Drew Fickett, could beat anyone except drunk Drew Fickett
