The athlete’s lawyer, Sergei Karpeev, told the details of the incident. According to him, the fighter had been looking for a meeting with a certain person who insulted him and his loved ones for a long time. During a personal conversation, the victim again began to swear at Ivan and his family, after which he received several blows to the face with his left hand - the athlete was holding ice cream in his right. Emelianenko’s offender broke his facial bones: either from the fall or from the blows - in any case, it was the athlete’s fault.
The victim turned out to be a multiple-convict, according to Emelianenko’s lawyer - a drug addict. Karpeev reported that after the incident, he became a defendant in another case and was placed in custody.
“He had a conflict with a repeat offender, which resulted in a fight. Being a prepared person, Emelianenko knocked him out. This repeat offender hit his head on the ground and broke his facial bones. The trial is currently underway. In the long term, of course, these are particularly serious injuries. But there are many circumstances. For example, Ivan has custody of a child. He is characterized positively. We are doing what we can, helping him,” promoter Vladimir Khryunov told SE.
What is Emelianenko facing
Ivan is charged under the first part of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm. The athlete faces imprisonment for up to eight years, there is no minimum sentence for this article. At the same time, Emelianenko’s lawyer said that the parties had resolved the issue peacefully, but it was no longer possible to interrupt the investigation - the fighter would be convicted in any case.
“This is a deliberate crime, a serious one. It is unknown what sentence the court will hand down, we will see. We hope that it is soft, because the victim asked not to put Emelianenko in prison.
