Kung Fu Sparring

Yea this is just a fucking shame.

I’m glad too see you made it here and are being more active here.

Always appreciated your insight and knowledge.

Also enjoy knowing what other solid flicks you’re adding to the collection lol.

Again glad you’re here. I wish other old school warriors would come here, but pieces of spam like these trolls just make the majority of them say “to hell with this”

I was smoking woodbines with Jackie Chan the other day while we gotta some paint and we both remarked that MMA forums were better when the pros used to post.

Now I don’t disagree with jackie, but I hold a firm belief that community members can make the balance.

At this point I’m obviously very wrong and if you have any mates that did Kung Fu bring them over.

Growing up Kung Fu was for pussies who couldn’t box. Not much has changed.

LOL tell that to Don Wilson and Jason DeLucia.

Sit down, kid!

Why? They don’t practice head punches which is the NUMBER ONE attack in a street fight.

Is it really?

8 out of 10 street fights wind up on the ground whenever someone swings for the head and misses.

Regardless if they know wtf they’re doing on the ground or not.

Punching the chest is severely disruptive , it’s rarely ever drilled/trained and is almost always followed up with a kick to the leg, body or head.

Plus they are well known to be able to take low kicks and give them better then the Thai fighters.

The conditioning is insane in Kyokushin.

It’s like a Turn based RPG Final Fantasy for example.

Give me it! I’m giving it back and then some!

They also deliberately tuck their head to break people’s hands by letting them hit the top of their skulls.

As a fan of Kung Fu I say this:

If western combat sports or mixed martial arts do it, they do it better than old school martial arts.

The rub is that western style training doesn’t do or focus on everything. What’s old becomes new again.

I’m pretty sure Don Wilson was a San Shou Kung Fu practitioner before getting into kickboxing. San Shou a totally different animal than your other Wushu-orientated Kung Fu styles. It’s more of a combatives system than a TMA.

As for Jason Delucia tell me one impressive thing he did ( aside from getting his ass handed to him by Royce Gracie twice ) before he hooked up with The Lion’s Den? Everything he accomplished in Pancrace was using Ken Shamrock’s teachings not Kung Fu.

Oh, yeah, I was a big Don “The Dragon” Wilson fan back in the day as well. I’m not putting him down. I’m just pointing out that he wasn’t some soft-style Kung Fu stylist that walked into pro kickboxing & began kicking ass. He came from a San Shou background & had some boxing matches in preparation for his kickboxing career. He, like Bruce Lee, was ahead of his time in that he cross-trained in other things to become a better more complete fighter.

Speaking of Bruce Lee, he’s the one who inspired me to begin training in martial arts & later, combat sports when I was 12. I’m still a massive Bruce Lee to this day. Hell. I have a little shrine set up to him in my townhouse.

So, you see, I don’t hate or disrespect Kung Fu at all. I’m just realistic about it.

Hell, one of my 2 blackbelts is in Kajukenbo Kempo. And if your not familiar with it this is the breakdown of its name.

Ka = Karate

Ju = Judo/Jiu Jitsu

Ken = Kempo/Kung Fu

Bo = Boxing

So, I’ve trained/mastered certain of the most effective elements of various styles of Kung Fu that are incorporated into Kajukenbo.

So, I know my shit. I’m not just some yokel who hates Kung Fu. Lol.

I absolutely love Don, don’t get me started…

Don really was a Muhammad Ali of KB in those days. But, why did he just get utterly starched in pro boxing?

It’s a fact now, in pro boxing, a guy with a losing record absolutely SLEPT Don.

It’s always been pretty wild to face these facts.

On one hand he was a superstar of his generation…only to just go and get tooled in boxing by a guy who nobody knows??

Also I really appreciate the breakdown of that name.
