The show that started it all! On October 11th, 1997, PRIDE 1 debuted at the Tokyo Dome and started an MMA revolution in Japan. The inaugural event featured several former UFC stars and was headlined by a clash between Nobuhiko Takada and Rickson Gracie.

Sort of a lackluster show number 1 from what I recall. They definitely picked up steam quickly though. As I recall the first few events, the crowd made almost no noise. It was a lot like the UFC in the Covid era where they didn’t allow audiences. I think the first time I saw this it was without commentary as well. I know Bas and Quandros went back and dubbed commentary over ot like they were watching it live. The funny part was when Bas was actually in someone’s corner, he’d be on camera but he’d just stop commentating until the camera was no longer on him. Haha, so weird.

I have a NAS (Network attached storage) which is sort of a mini computer with a ton of storage that is always running. A NAS has a lot of things you can do with it, one thing is to make your own plex server. Plex server is like a personal netflix.
You take DVDs Blu Ray 4kHD you can rip them off a disk and store them on your NAS. (also torrents that you pirate if you want)
So I can watch any pride event from my phone, computer or whatever even when traveling assuming your internet speed is fast enough to stream (or you can download them to watch locally on your device)
You can also share access with your family or friends, as long as you have the bandwidth for more users. You can have Movies, TV shows, evenys and even music on there.
It happens occasionally that like a movie you “Buy” from apple TV or amazon gets deleted, because they dont have the rights to it anymore or something.
With your own plex server, nobody can remove anything because its all your stuff.
This is why some people choose to have big Blu Ray or DVD collections at home, but they can look tacky and you have to handle the physical media, which can get scratched or sticky if you have kids.
This way you have the functionality of your own movie, tv etc library, but with the convince of a streaming service.

My favorite all time moment was when I’m the middle of a fight Quadros goes “I remember after this event, Amir called me and told me…that he lost the fight” and Bas was like “what do you mean, we’re watching it now!”
Not only did he give away the fact that it was dubbed, but he fucking spoiled the result DURING the fight
