The forearm across the jaw and slam when someone jumps guard

Hasn’t been the same since he left the Diaz bros to train in Montana

I agree with that 100% but would add Helio/Rorian lineage GJJ.

Carlos and Carlson’s guys knew how to fight. That sides grappling is far from obsolete

Has nothing to do with that.

That’s a 1993 self defense bullshit mistake, not a sport JJ one.

Kron has some shit going on. It seems like he’s trying to destroy his connection to his family and even BJJ. No fucking way his head was in the game that night. That was legit blue belt, never been in a fight level shit. Had to be on purpose or he’s checked out

I think his bjj was fine. He was always all about mastering the basics.
Guard is just different in mma. Guys don’t even try ti pass your guard so all the time on guard retention is wasted. And when someone isn’t trying to pass it’s hard to capitalize on mistakes and to unbalance them.

Old school guard works of the top guy has no bjj.
But in current year when even street fighter know alittle bjj you cannot have a defensive mindset on bottom,
Some of the best guard work if seen in mma wasn’t even really bjj guys. It’s guys like fedor who immmediatky open guard and go all in on attacking arms.
The rules of sambo and Judo make you attack as the fight transition to the ground.
Modern bjj guys do the same.
But keeping closed guard in mma makes zero sense.

This is why I do guard passing maybe 1/10th what most bjj schools do. It’s completely different in a fight.’the onus should be on the guy on bottom to do something, if u can’t get a sub immediately you should be wrestling up, going to half guard, butterfly, or k guard.
As posted above. If you’re gonna pull guard you should be shooting a single or high crutch and pulling hair guard right into “Plan B”or “old school” sweeps.
Even if they fail something will happen, and on bottom you need to embrace them scrabble not try to resist it like Kron did.

Not even a 1993 SD mistake.

That type of guard pull was never used in Gracie JJ.

It is used in sport bjj however.

He’s 36 and basically doesn’t compete anymore. Seems like he’s just fighting out his contract and that’s that. Seems like he’s not interested in being a part of the BJJ/MMA scene either. He’s got 3 losses in a row, but they stretch out over a 5 year span.

I never understood why BJJ guys didn’t focus on their wrestling. If my game is about grappling and submission I would be DAMN sure I could get people to the ground. Damian Maia is a great example. He honed his wrestling to the point that he could out-Fitch, Jon Fitch. It just makes sense. Pat Militech was a wrestler who dedicated thousands of hours to learning…BOXING. He won a championship as a result of that.

I had seen this forearm to the jaw slam before. But it was a long time ago. Very few still pull guard, that’s why. And I guess not many will after that reminder ha ha
