Boxing and mma are 2 different animals. If you were sparring against a guy you might fight later on, wouldn’t you want to get in his ass to give him something to remember if you guys fought later ? In boxing it’s acceptable to get in someone’s cup to slow them down, that shit doesn’t fly in mma, because you can get seriously fucked up if you do
Love that story and all of them like that. In boxing it’s not uncommon to see guys lacing up their shoes after a workout thinking they hadn’t trained yet and you’re like “bro, you just finished training, wtf are you doing”
They aren’t ruining any paydays, you’re not sparring like that a couple of weeks out from a fight. You mentioned AKA having “sparring days” , in boxing every day is a sparring day. From amateur to the pros guys are sparring 4 to 5 days a week. It’s just a different outlook and a different sport with different risks attached
I meant hard like that. AKA, Koscheck’s gym and others go full throttle. One guy I knew who’s pretty good in bjj right now on a world level suffered a concussion sparring and he couldn’t fight anymore.
Koscheck had to sell his planes because he passed out mid flight.
Same with my other buddy. He had issues flying at times because of the concussions and hard sparring
You just described perfectly the difference between mma guys and boxers. Koschek owned planes, while a boxer like Iran Barkley who comparatively accomplished much more than Koschek owned a rental property or two in the South Bronx…
Speaking of Koschek in the first ufc game on Xbox, I’d use him or Fitch to lay and pray people, i used to have an inbox full hate messages and have a ton of rage quits I’d get from taking people down , then transition blocking for 3 rounds, it was beautiful…
