Bjj yes, but no gi grappling in One and UFC Fightpass has been pretty entertaining. Long time bjj player here and I also find it quite dull as a spectator sport.
I’ve been to a few events in Bangkok. Last one was Tawanchai vs Smoking joe. It was sold out. I know before the pandemic, they were giving away tickets. They were losing money every Bangkok card. It exploded when they made a deal with the Thai kickboxing federation, holding events at Lumpinee arena.
That was at the impact arena. They only do 1 or 2 shows a year at that arena. The rest are at lumpinee stadium which is a lot smaller.
I’m might fly into Bangkok in January for the Superbon vs Tawainchai fight. They’re also filming a One championship movie at the event. Starring Russell Crowe.
Only reason to invest in grappling would be to feed the higher potential crossovers into mma straight into UFC.
You can never do big numbers.
You could potentially do something with kickboxing which hasn’t really taken hold as spectator sport in north america but any form of grappling is a no go.
Sorry you might love it as a competitor or die hard martial arts fan but itll never pull in a casual.
I don’t think so. I think Craig and ADCC this year showed you can definitely get casual morons to watch grappling. Enough casual retards to sell a lot of ads and ppv.
Dana’s no dummy, he’ll show them boys how to actually run a promotion
