That was some weak ass Matt Serra wall and stall. Aldo always gets fucked
It was close but I thought the young guy probably barely edged it out. Whoever won did so on a razor thin margin
100% Aldo won…
The same bad judges robbed the dyke and gave it to the hot little tart so it evens out
Aldo does always seem to get screwed. Other guy was 0/10 on takedowns but gets rewarded for his wall n stall.
Yeah i dont know how that works. Id have to watch it again, but i saw aldo with effective boxing and all i saw the kid do was attempt and fail takedown after takedown after takedown.
Another vote for Aldo here.
Yadda Yadda. He lost. And Joe Rogan talking about the most destructive leg kick display in the octagon is bollocks.
It was in the wec not UFC.
Great card btw.
Aldo lost.
Octagon control is (was?) a scoring criteria and stuffing your opponent against the wall is controlling the octagon
There is no scoring criteria where Aldo won that.
What about winging punches that didn’t land?
I thought Aldo won as well. The problem is his gas tank gets drained after like 2 rounds and he uses the wall stall to catch his breath. He could try a lot harder to get off the cage if he really wanted to.
100%! “octagon control” needs to be removed from the scoring - it ruins fights. Wall-N-Stall should be punished with a yellow card, not rewarded with a W
He lost according to the ruleset.
This fight was a great example (as mentioned above) of how Pride’s card system was a great concept for MMA.
Fighters should be penalized for stalling, if you are the superior fighter, then why are you holding someone instead of advancing the position and looking for the finish?
So its a bummer, but it is because of the rules.
Aldo knew the rules and should not have accepted that position as long as he did.
Yep. This is also why Yan beat Sugar Shawn but they give him the victory anyway. Omalley beat him on Pride rules for all I care
His fighting style unfortunately lends itself to losing. His fights are like he’s trying to win by making the absolute minimum effort. Everything he does in the first round is blue balling the viewer because he stops with the kicks and starts punching holes in the air. It’s like his corner gives him horse tranquilizer between rounds. He’s had his BJJ black belt for probably 20 years and great takedowns but why threaten with that?
This. Rogan harps on about this killer yet we don’t see it. Always talking about a fighter he used to be.
This is why the ring is better than the cage. The fact you get points for wall and stall (“octagon control”) is so stupid. Fight
PRIORITIZED CRITERIA:
Effective Striking/Grappling
“Legal blows that have immediate or cumulative impact with the potential to contribute towards the end of the match with the IMMEDIATE weighing in more heavily than the cumulative impact. Successful execution of takedowns, submission attempts, reversals and the achievement of advantageous positions that produce immediate or cumulative impact with the potential to contribute to the end of the match, with the IMMEDIATE weighing more heavily than the cumulative impact.” It shall be noted that a successful takedown is not merely a changing of position, but the establishment of an attack from the use of the takedown. Top and bottom position fighters are assessed more on the impactful/effective result of their actions, more so than their position. This criterion will be the deciding factor in a high majority of decisions when scoring a round. The next two criteria must be treated as a backup and used ONLY when Effective Striking/Grappling is 100% equal for the round.
Effective Aggressiveness
“Aggressively making attempts to finish the fight. The key term is ‘effective’. Chasing after an opponent with no effective result or impact should not render in the judges’ assessments.” Effective Aggressiveness is only to be assessed if Effective Striking/Grappling is 100% equal for both competitors.
Fighting Area Control
“Fighting area control is assessed by determining who is dictating the pace, place and position of the match.” Fighting Area Control” shall only to be assessed if Effective Striking/Grappling and Effective Aggressiveness is 100% equal for both competitors. This will be assessed very rarely.
According to the actual rules, Bautista’s “control” should not have counted at all.
Aldo visibly did more damage. That was the only thing that was supposed to count.
But just pretend Effective Striking/Grappling was actually 100% even… Aldo still should have won because the next criteria is Effective Aggressiveness and Bautista did the exact opposite of what is considered Effective Aggressiveness.
