Russian MMA fighter Alexander Emelianenko has spoken about his bad habits.
— I constantly get injuries. You come to the gym — your elbows hurt, your knees. You’re not setting the right training pace. You can’t start working properly until you’ve warmed up. If before I’d come to the gym even after a binge, now I need half an hour just to warm up. It’s a hindrance, but it doesn’t demotivate me. The illnesses don’t affect fights in any way. I live the way I always lived, — Vseprosport quotes Emelianenko as saying.
— You’ve talked about your bad habits more than once. Don’t they hinder your preparation for fights?
— When I’m preparing, I don’t use anything at all. I used to really like smoking marijuana, which is why I often choked and gasped in the ring. I smoked every day. I smoked 10 grams of “White Widow” a day. In the end, there was less tobacco and more marijuana, to at least somehow hook me.
The first joint in the morning hooked me. And then you smoke it like cigarettes. The joint in the ashtray did not go out. And over time, I realized that it was unnecessary, it clogs the lungs and interferes. I coughed up phlegm, and it was even black. Sometimes I took it on my fingers, kneaded it - just pitch, tar. I quit smoking - and I don’t want to, although I smoked for more than 10 years. Now I don’t do anything forbidden to the body.
I can allow myself to drink alcohol sometimes to relax, to relieve the creeps. Sometimes I drink beer when the fight is far away. But I don’t drink too much, I don’t get involved in this process. I rested for one or two days - and that’s enough. And before, I was a real hooligan. Compared to those binges, now there is nothing like this.
