MMA probably causes punch drunkedness even quicker than boxing?

With minimal gloves, no headgear and more allowed strikes from hands, elbows, knees and feet? Plus the spinning backfist was banned from boxing for a reason?

I think making MMA more inline with boxing rules has caused this. During the early days of NHB no hold barred without time limits, no gloves was the safest???

Reality isā€¦ any contact sport can lead to brain damage. That said, many wilfully choose this path in their life and accept the good and the bad that comes with their chosen path in life. My body has taken tons of damage from the path in life I have chosen and I accept and embrace that damage. It is/was part of the ride that i chose to take in this life

The real solution to this is prohibIt the use of gloves. Without gloves, bareknucklers avoid hitting the skull due to the chance of breaking the knuckles. Boxing gloves arent there to protect the other guyā€™s head but to protect the hands!!!

Pretending mma doesnā€™t lead to cte is dumb. Of course it does. Itā€™s only a matter of time before ufc is looked at the same way as nfl in that regard. There will come a time where significant lawsuits/payments are the norm. Hopefully the ufc is in fact investing in care and research and can help mitigate some of the impacts.

I tend to agree, the athletes willingly participate and need to accept the lion share of the blame, provided nobody is blowing smoke up their ass saying mma is ā€œsafeā€ and doesnā€™t cause lasting harm.

Crazy how muy thai fighters does it from childhood and nothing happens, maybe it happens im just speculating. But they probably have tradition to not get drunk after the fights and to take sparring playful

Do fighters take as many head shots as a lineman over their life? I realize things are different now, but 10 years ago an NFL lineman had taken thousands of hits , albeit smaller ones, to the head in his life.

I donā€™t know. I would think the number would be high between training and fights.

It seems to usually be the stand and bang, high volume/low defense guys in lower weight classes who go to a lot of decisions. Nam Phan, Spencer Fisher, etc.

And imo that style isnā€™t even entertaining. Itā€™s similar to WMMA in that you know going in the chance of a finish or holy shit moment is very low.

Sadly thatā€™s very possible, yes.

Anyone into fagfighting? they have less brains to lose???!!!

And no kicks to the head.

Same here & I have no regrets.

At the age of 45 Iā€™m glad my main hobby in life was bicycling and not football or mma. I feel great

Iā€™ve talked to Thais and they just kind of shrug their shoulders - some people slur, so what? It seems to be there, but they donā€™t make an issue of it. If you go back to farming or a food stand I guess it doesnā€™t matter much.

AIUI, low level Thais donā€™t really spar. They train techniques and fight a lot more often.

The talk about CTE often focuses on worst-case scenarios and distracts from other problems that could presumably come from strikes to the head. I mean, Iā€™ve known fighters thatā€™d show signs of what I considered mental illness. I think things like that are easily written off in the gym since fighters are a bit ā€œcrazyā€ anyway.
