As President-elect Donald Trump continues to fill out cabinet positions ahead of taking office in January, don’t expect Dana White’s name to pop up as a potential candidate for any role.
Despite serving as one of Trump’s biggest supporters during the 2024 election campaign and even speaking at his celebration after winning a second term in office, the UFC CEO says he has no interest when it comes to politics. White has said similar in the past when it came to potential political aspirations but that hasn’t changed just because Trump is reclaiming the presidency in a matter of weeks.
“I’m in the fight business, which is the dirtiest, nastiest business,” White said when speaking to the Sports Business Journal. “We all hate each other and we’re all fighting everyday.
“There is nothing dirtier than politics. It’s disgusting. It’s gross. I want nothing to do with it.”
As much as White protests about his involvement in the Trump administration, it’s understandable why his name got floated as a potential candidate to fill some role in the government given his close ties to the president-elect.
Among them is former WWE executive Linda McMahon, who is being nominated as the new Secretary of Education, after she helped run the professional wrestling organization for years prior to the company selling and now being combined with the UFC under one umbrella.
While White spoke on Trump’s behalf during his two previous presidential election cycles in 2016 and 2020, the UFC executive became one of his most outspoken supporters in 2024.
White not only appeared at the Republican National Convention like he had done in years past, but he also started showing up for interviews and TV segments to tout the Trump agenda ahead of the election.
He will certainly maintain those ties once Trump takes office in January but White won’t be one of the candidates floated to actually join his administration.
The media hate Dana and Donald and Dana runs the biggest promotion in a highly regulated sport. He has not the time, nor the patience to deal with accusations, to be a govt employee.
So a guy doesn’t want to be a politician… so the fook what.
IDK about Dana White, but I would have preferred to see Chael Sonnen or even Sean Strickland as press secretary.
Good! Keep that asshole to the UFC.
He’s a very skin thinned cokehead who has a couple of bad skeletons - he wouldn’t do well.
