What a great career. The man is a true champion and a real martial artist and absolutely belongs in the same sentence as GSP, Anderson, Jon Jones, Fedor etc.
It’s actually criminal that this isn’t a bigger deal. I’m really happy to hear he’s going full out on bjj. I am looking forward to watching him complete. I understand he didn’t medal at the IBJJF. No shame in that though. Sounds like he did well nonetheless.
He had some good stoppage wins, but a lot of his fights were awful and people begged him for him be traded off to One. When we used to go to watch UFC at the sports bars, everybody would get up and leave during his fights. There was no sense of danger in several. The whole OG wanted his division eliminated.
He didn’t get start getting more exciting until he aged. The Dodson and Ali fights were paint drying. The second McCall fight wasn’t spectacular either.
I definitely believe this. Real fans loved DJ, the just bleed crowd called him a “midget” which is very weird actually considering many of boxing’s greatest fighters in history have always been between 126-135 lbs.
Oh Jesus Christ. The “real fan” excuse. Go jerk off to the little boy body women fighters going to decisions to prove how much of a hardcore fan you are bro
I had friends who were MASSIVE mma fans and had been since the Pride days, who would walk out. His fights had no sense of danger for a long time. Somebody throws a jab, he retreats 10 feet backward, that’s how a lot of 125er fights were. Shit was awful. A lot of his big submission wins came against nobody’s too.
