I wish Ken wouldn’t have gone to the WWF when he did and fucked up his body more.
It did help bring more attention to MMA, but we also missed out on a couple more years of prime Ken.
Ken vs Coleman and Ken vs Tank are 2 fights I wanted to see.

Bas fought him in February 1991 and was knocked out in the first round. Bas has talked about it in interviews. Sort of a crazy fight, Bas looks like he is gassed 2 minutes into the fight, Frank is coming after him like a mad man, Bas tries to get aggressive and gets knocked out on the way in.

I don’t know much about Frank but I don’t think he fought outside of Europe much, and I think he has something like 80 or 90 knockouts.

Edit: I checked Wikipedia, and the fight was in Rotterdam.

IMO UFC and MMA might not exist now if Ken Shamrock didn’t spend a couple of years in WWF.
Highest buy rate ever at that point and started an upward trend in buys from there. But I’ve always said that I don’t think its possible to calculate the huge number of WWF fans that weren’t willing to part with cash for UFC40 so weren’t counted in the buy rates, but pirated it, both live and in the next few months after release.
It didn’t just make Tito a wider star, it exposed those fans to Chuck (who won by KO) and Hughes (who won by TKO), and Lawler (who won by KO).

For that alone, Ken deserves more credit and a higher status in the sport.

On a side note…

I’ve actually met a handful of people who straight-up told me the first Ken/Tito fight made Ken Shamrock their favorite fighter – and for a couple of them, it was one of their first introductions to MMA!

No joke.

I realize it’s completely anecdotal – but something about that losing effort endeared Ken to at least a certain percentage of people.

I don’t count because I’ve been following this thing from the beginning…

But it’s interesting to hear what some people gravitate towards and respect/appreciate.
