Is DDP ready for Hazmat?

The Americans all lack the cardio to wrestle 15 mins.

IIRC in his Rogan interview wasnt his coach (when he got into MMA) just a kickboxer or taekwando guy or something?

I may be remembering wrong.

Yea, he might have been.

I agree with your breakdown. I still think that Izzy has the best shot of anyone in the top 10. You need range, quickness and a gas tank to beat Khamzat. Izzy has all 3. He’s just absolute shit on the ground to the point that he might as well tap if Khamzat takes him down.

He’s not shit on the ground but compared to Khamzat he is absolute shit. He didn’t even defend properly against DDP. But I agree with your point. He does have the footwork to do it, but I also thought Whittaker did. I’ve been doubting Khamzat for a while but I won’t anymore. I agree that’s a great fight though, I’m just worried for Izzy lol, I don’t want to see him get mauled.

Izzy gets mauled. DDP does better because he’s a dog.

I am a big Yoel fan and I think Yoel can give anyone, or almost anyone, trouble for a round or a round and a half, but then he gets tired. I think someone was saying earlier in this thread that the Dagestani guys have this ability to wrestle for much longer than the Americans without getting overly tired, and I think it’s the same thing when comparing the Dagestanis to Yoel.

100%. The Yoel fights mean nothing.

American wrestlers are built for explosion, sort of like NFL line men. They excel in short burst of explosive movements, because that is what’s needed. Keep the defense on the field for extended periods and the fat asses gas.

Ironically the best wrestler turned fighter was fat ass DC. I guess you could count Hones to a lesser degree but he started fighting young so he adapted.

Did I tell you my friend beat Jon Jones? He was only 15 but it still counts

I sort of blame Dana White for wrestlers turning into strikers. Dana hates dry humpers and punishes them even if they are winning. Dana shit all over Curtis until he started wanging

I think we all do.

UFC rules favor boring wrestlers. Cage control (wall n stall) + takedowns = snooze your way to victory.

Speaking of wrasslers, man we used to some great Ground N Pound in the UFC. I cant recall much of it for quite a while.

I think there needs to be a happy medium. Some strikers have shit takedown defense and guards. They get take down and don’t try and scramble up. They just lie there like lazy hoes and wait for a standup. I used to get this a lot in BJJ. I’d take a guy down, and they would just wrap me up but not try to get up or sub

Its a shame Gregor Gillespie doesnt seem to be fighting anymore. He was an american wrestler that seemed to have promise.

As much as I hate dagastani fighters personality I do like their wrestling. Khabib had one of the best leg weave ground and pound

I like Gregor too, he looked small for his division, I think he would have done better at 145

That’s pretty awesome. From New York?

You can’t ground and pound most modern mma fighters because they stand up as soon as you posture up to strike. 20 years ago guys just laid there after being taken down

He’s old

I believe his neck is fused and he’s actually terrified of getting guillotined and becoming a paraplegic. Wrestling puts him at risk for severe injury. If thats the case, we’ve never seen full potential Yoel.
