I would have loved to see jones vs overeem. Even the chinny more recent overreem we saw as jones doesn’t really have the kind of power that was overeems downfall at HW post horsemeat.

The stories are Alistair was better than him sparring. So I’ve heard from others who saw them spar
According to Alistair though they didn’t spar much because Jon got injured sparring him.
I think Alistair would have been a great matchup for Jon. He could strike with him, and he’s one of only about 3 people better than Jon in the clinch. Alistair was a god of knees and sasae.

I think those stories were definitely true because prior to Overeem joining Jackson Wink there was a lot of talk from Jones himself about going up to heavyweight.
Then all talk of that suddenly vanished for years after Alastair was there so I think there was definitely something to that.

Man, what many people fail to understand is that Stipe could have fought any lesser opponent(s) instead of waiting for Jon. Any version of Stipe we have seen is significantly better than the vast majority of the division. If money was his motivation, why not smack a few bums around.
