The more skilled fighters are in the lower weight classes. Most fighters have success when they go up in weight not down. Sean is way smaller than sergei but technically he is a much better striker. Pereira is a freak. How he made middle is astonishing. He’s 6’4 with a big frame. He’s not a 260 heavyweight but he could easily get up into the 230-240 range and would have a speed and skill advantage over anyone. Remember rumble fought at welter weight and he’s massive. Not many heavyweights use wrestling. It seems like outside of the Dagestan fighters and a few Americans, not a ton of wrestling is being utilized in the ufc theses days. This has allowed guys like Pereria and Gane to have a lot of success.
There’s no such thing as “earning the right” to hold up a division.
Did Silva earn the right to get beat by the then top prospect Weidman? No the sport moves on with new replacing the old.
You want to fight in charity fights relinquish the title. That simple.

Clearly he has earned the right or the fight wouldn’t be taking place and he would have been stripped of the title. The ufc isn’t a playoff tournament. It’s prize fighting. GSP earned the right to come back and jump right into a title fight in a division he’s never fought in.

GSP didn’t earn shit. He fucked the UFC over as they expected him to defend against #1 contenders and then he pulled out with diverticulitis a day after the fight and retired.
You need to learn more about the sports history and why this is unprecedented. It’s the UFC being more corrupt and desperate for cash these days.

If two champions want to fight, that’s going to supersede an interim champ with a 3 fight win streak. Prestige matters in the fight game. Again. It’s prize fighting. It’s not a football season. They aren’t putting on mega fights for desperation. It’s not corrupt. If the nfl inserted a different team into the Super Bowl who didn’t make it there. That would be corrupt. Fights are made through contracts. It’s not a fight league.
