I completely agree. I think Cormier and Cain would have destroyed Aspinall if their primes coincided. Jones already beat Cormier twice and beating a young fighter like Aspinall adds nothing to Jones’s legacy

I see this being said a lot and I dont understand it at all.
Aspinall would arguably be the second toughest opponent Jon has ever faced with all things considered. How would a win of that level not add anything to Jons legacy?

I don’t think there’s any way Jones is making 205 again, so no surprise he’d rather weigh (pun intended) the odds in his favour by fighting the smaller man and make the former middleweight move up yet another weight class.
On the other hand, Poatan is a much bigger name than Aspinall so that part is logical.

Tom has no juice yet. Heavyweights need to be more active to get the recognition because in general its a weak division with real ko power, so just being champ isnt as hard to obtain.
He needs a real breakout fight before a jones fight makes sense monetarily.
What is there left for him in the division to make a name off of though? outside of Jon/Stipe the only top 10 ranked guys he hasnt already fought and beaten in the first round are Gane and Jailton, and Gane doesnt seem to want to fight him either.
People forget that Pavlovich was looking like a monster heading into that interim title fight too. He had 6 consecutive first round KOs and is a 260lb dude with Jon Jones reach.

Alex is an easy fight for Jones. Quick takedown and submission. I love Alex but he has nothing for Jones unless Jon just stands and trades with him. Tom is a much more competitive fight.

That was my point about hw being a weak division. Dana needs to sign some freak show for tom, or he needs a pr team and to continue working his ass off looking for higlight finishes.

Jones last 2 fights at LHW he slowed down considerably and arguably lost. His move to HW was a necessity, I don’t see him ever going back to 205 and if he does I don’t think it’d work in his favor.

He literally beat everyone put in front of him. Destroyed the next-best LHWs of all time easily. All of the greats he beat were on steroids, just like 99% of UFC fighters are and have been. He is a drug addled criminal, but that’s beside the point of him being one of the best MMA fighters of all time
