New Rickson Gracie Vid: The Art and Science of Invisible Jiu-Jitsu

I tried to go to a Rickson seminar once here in Melbourne, Oz. Cost an absolute fortune.
They had to delay it once because he couldn’t get his visa organized. Then after he was too lazy to get it organized a second time they refunded everyone’s money and gave up.

He would have seriously made like $50k for a few hours of just showing up, rambling about his invisible jujitsu and all of us would have gone home happy we got the mystical Rickson.

Absolutely, I have small hands so he could just crush my hand during the handshake and if I winced that is a tap out.

600-0

still a legend

Wow that was hard to watch…he’s got a positive attitude…hope he gets better…also “,always thank your waiter.”…

You should have a look at the Geoff Thompson book FIGHTING WITHOUT FIGHTING.

Ooooh… Been a long time since, but:

First post nails it.

But seriously, it’s a super interesting topic:

A good fighter wins his fights,
A great fighter wins them with a single strike
A master, without ever having to hurt anyone.

Geoff Thompson has a great book about it:
Fighting without fighting…we all know where he got the quote* …and we all should read/re-read it.
There’s a brilliant story at the start…

I remember after years of karate/kickboxing/boxing I went to a bujinkan ninjitsu school and having my mind blown when they explained that actually very few conflicts ever needed you to respond by punching folk in the face**… They have this 5 levels of response thing related to 5 elements…and to be honest, it is still pretty cool…the first (or maybe the highest?) level being VOID…get your ego in check and gtfo of the situation…

And of course, Geoff Thompson’s stuff was a revolution in the arts…

I met Geoff many times, used to go hear him speak a lot and train with him whenever I could…

He was (probably?) the first to talk about the pre-emptive strike and changed “self-defence”…

As he kept learning and growing, we all saw him grow into the gentle old hippie he is now…at one of his book signings someone asked him:
“Geoff… you’re turning into an old hippie…do you still think you’d use a pre-emptive strike?”

“Yes…if I’d worked through all my options…and had no alternative, I’d hit em… I’d hit em out of love.
I love my life… and I don’t want to lose it if he hits me…he doesn’t know control… I love my family…I don’t want them to lose their father and husband…
And I love my attacker…I don’t want his life ruined by one daft moment of anger…”

Beautiful.

Mmmh…all you need to do is change the world and maybe invent a sport that becomes one of the most popular in the world.

Go on champ…you can do it!!!

You are obviously butt hurt by my joke. I do respect Rickson for what he has done. He is a true master. He has made a lot of money through his hard work and marketing.

It was wrong to make a joke about a demigod. I will go to hell and be eternally armbarred.

The master of marketing and making money was Rorion. He has 5X the money Rickson has, probably more. Rickson learned and rode the wave.

Rorion has the superior IQ and half-brother Rickson was the superior athlete and BJJer.
