Randy Couture vs Frank Mir

Randy nearly got in a fight with me once, he’s lucky I was in a good mood.

Pre motor cycle accident Mir taps him in the first rd. Comeback Mir who fought Vera gets tko’ed in the second. Second Wind Mir starting with the Lesnar win subs him in the second or knocks Couture out.

Thread hijack slightly. How impressive Vera looked here!

Mir is one of the best submission finishers ever.
But his subs were generally more opportunistic. He was very slick when his opponent made a mistake – but there were better positional/overall grapplers at HW.

Couture was always an excellent game planner. Methodical. Didn’t make many mistakes (at least in the cage).

Sure , Mir could come out and flash sub him in the first.
I just don’t see that as the most likely scenario.
If I was betting I’d say late second to third round.

Subbing a tired Couture seems more likely.

Mir wasn’t able to submit Cormier early in his ufc career I doubt he’d submit couture

common opponent: nog, tim sylvia, brock, barnett, vera

That doesnt always work, but in this case i think it is a very valid comparison.

Im not trying to shit on Randy, i respect him, but he gets overrated a bit for some reason.

Hes very good at what he does, but he was i think a little more one dimensional than some ppl remember.

Or maybe its me, i honestly need to go back to some of his earlier fights.

P.S. clicked your name and saw “Rainer Wolfcastle” lol didnt know it was you, good to see you here brochacho! :facepunch:

I loved Randy and disliked Mir but I think Mir wins. He was damn big and hit hard. I think he KOs Randy standing or subs him on the ground. Randy does have cardio and could grind Mir to a JD

Mir could knock out Randy or submit him. Randy wouldn’t be able to do either of those things to Frank. Couture could grind out a decision via wall n’ stall like he did to Vera. But I’d bet on Mir.

according to brave leo:

Based on the provided search results, the consensus seems to be that Frank Mir would have a good chance of defeating Randy Couture in a fight. This is mainly due to Mir’s superior submission skills and Couture’s slower speed during that period. However, it’s important to note that Couture was known for his wrestling skills and resilience, which could have posed challenges for Mir. Please remember that this is a general interpretation and the outcome of a real fight can be unpredictable due to various factors.

This is a tough one. As onepunch said I think there is a stylistic contrast that could go either way. It really depends on which version of Mir shows up. If his boxing was crisp like it was during that peak window time, maybe he hurts Couture early, but I don’t know if he’s finishing Randy with strikes.

Randy was tough as hell. I think he takes Mir’s best shot and comes back, Mir slows down, Randy gets a late finish or decision. If Mir shows up he possibly locks in an armbar quickly. Hard to say but if I were to bet, I would say Randy by decision.

I don’t think Mir would have a good chance against Randy striking. Randy roughed up much better strikers including Maurice, Vitor and Chuck on the feet.

I think his boxing style matches up well against Couture. Plus Mir had power. Couture wouldn’t have the power to keep Mir off of him but I think he could take Mir’s best shot and keep coming, and get into the range he wants. Either way, I would bet on Couture.

Randy out struck Tim Sylvia in the opening stages of that fight from what I recall.

He faked coming in for a takedown and Sylvia dropped his hands to stop it, but Randy threw a big overhand right instead and rung his bell good.
The only time in 20+years of UFC that I’ve ever jumped to my feet and tardscreamed at the TV.
