Hows this play out ?
I think Randy would rough Frank up with dity boxing against the cage and end up winning by TKO

Randy had better wrestling for sure, but i could see him getting the TD and Mir trapping an arm; Frank was good at setting up subs quickly and once he got ahold of it, it was over.
Could see it happening that way or Mir rocking him on the feet and dropping him.
Feel like Randy’s only route to victory is just as you mentioned. Wear him down.
Randy was my favourite fighter,…damn that wanking cam shameful bastard
Would have been a good fight, would have loved to see it.
There was a good 3-4 years period where Mir was on a tear and only really struggled (and lost) to the gigantic wrestlers like Lesnar and Carwin because they were just too strong for him. Randy was better than them technically but didn’t have their size and power.
I don’t think Randy would be able to use the fear of the takedown to land the strikes he’d need and think Mir would eventually catch him either on the feet or with a sub on the ground if they went there.
As others said, IMO Randy would need to wear him down for a decision victory.
Randy sort of struggled with big submission guys. Mir had youth and some of the best bottom game at ufc hw history. I’d have to pick Frank (unfortunately).
Frank by arm bar.

In their primes, both Randy Couture and Frank Mir were elite fighters with contrasting styles that would make for an intriguing matchup.
Wrestling and Takedowns: Couture would likely aim to close the distance quickly to avoid Mir’s submission threats and put him against the cage. His superior wrestling would likely give him the edge in takedowns and control in the clinch. However, Mir’s size and strength might allow him to resist or counter some of Couture’s attempts.
Grappling and Submissions: On the ground, Couture would need to be extremely cautious. If he were in top control, his priority would be to maintain position and avoid making mistakes, as Mir could snatch a submission from his guard. Mir would be most dangerous if the fight went to the ground with him on his back, but Couture’s grappling IQ would help him stay safe.
Striking and Clinch Game: Couture’s dirty boxing and clinch work would likely play a pivotal role in the stand-up exchanges. Mir’s size advantage might allow him to land heavier shots if he can keep the fight at range. However, Couture would likely neutralize this by getting inside and making it a grueling, close-range fight.
Cardio: If the fight goes into the later rounds, Couture’s cardio and pace would become more of a factor. Mir, historically, didn’t have the same gas tank as Couture, and this would tilt the fight in Couture’s favor in a prolonged contest.
If they fought once in their primes, Couture’s wrestling, fight IQ, and cardio would give him the edge in a majority of situations. He’d be able to avoid Mir’s submission threats by controlling him in the clinch or in top position without making mistakes. Couture would grind out a decision or win via ground-and-pound in the later rounds.
However, Mir’s submission game is a wild card. If Couture made a mistake in a scramble or allowed Mir to capitalize on an opening, Mir could pull off a submission victory.
Ultimately, Couture’s wrestling and ability to stick to a game plan would make him the more consistent winner, though Mir’s submissions would give him a reasonable chance to secure victories in about 30% of their hypothetical fights.
Hard to say.
I would probably go with Mir.
But Couture is such a tough guy that if I bet against him I would probably show up and win.
I used to go train at Drysdale’s when Mir was at the peak of his career.
So I might be a little biased toward MIr.
Remember when Randy spanked Tito.
Ahh, the good ol’days of MMA.
Tito not impressed, Tito disapprove…

very interesting hypothetical. i’d say i think randy would be smart enough to keep it on the fence and on the feet. i think he’d win a decision or get a stoppage.
but if he was dumb enough to go to the ground i think mir takes an arm.
Any age mir is taking a limb after either getting rocked on the feet or rocking randy
I love randy but thats reality
see i don’t think randy takes him down. and frank had no td ability and he wasn’t an effective guard puller as far as i can remember.
but there’s never been a hw that took limbs like mir
Interesting fight because they are both kind of bad matchups for each other.
Would help to know at what point in their careers.
I’m assuming would always be in a cage…
Handy?
I’d comfortably favour Mir tbh. He had the size and strength advantage, the sub game and he could do more damage on the feet too.
Mir’s weakness was against big aggressive HWs.
Randy was more of a grinder.
I can see Randy controlling the first round then getting tired and Mir takes it.
