I want to in support of Tyson and i dont doubt that he can pull it off, but this fight just should never have been sanctioned.
It is a lose/lose situation for both fighters, only ppl that benefit is the ppl to gain the most money from it.
If Tyson wins, he beats someone that was never going to be on his level. If he loses, he lost to someone thats was never really on his level.
For Paul, winning means you actually chose to beat up on a legend pushing 60 that would have murdered him in their prime. If he loses, hes a proven bum that tried to beat an old man.
This fight does nothing but lessen an already wounded sport that has been exploited time and time again for the almighty dollar.
I guess if he wins you could say that the fans get another Tyson fight. I just think he has nothing to prove, hes pushing 60 and has a family, theres no reason to risk any further damage. This does absolutely nothing for his legacy.
He has a unique style and insight into the sport, instilled in him by Cus. So stick to coaching and pass on your knowledge.
I just dont think Jake registers as a legitimate “pro” boxer.
Hes not bad, hes come very far ill give him that. But this celebrity boxing or whatever we’re calling it and attempting to mingle it with high level professional boxing…its just not good for the sport IMO.
Then again i guess most younger ppl are all about celebrities and drama behind it more than seeing two high level ppl theyve never heard of go ai it.
Its not good for the legitimacy of boxing i guess is the way to say it.
I don’t disagree and I’m not a fan of the Paul hype.
That’s why I want to see Tyson end it, or at least be the guy who first slowed it down.
On the flip side, I’ll be pissed if Tyson loses.
I go back the the exhibition with RJJ though.
Tyson was holding back.
But he did hurt Roy Jones bad with at least one body shot – and you can see Jones still in very much pain in the post-fight interview.
He still hits hard, and technically he’s miles above Paul.
The question is will the knowledge match the reflex, or even close.
Young reflex beats learned reflex most times.
So hopefully the difference in levels makes up for that.
Does it make any sense? Nope.
Will ALL of us watch it? Yup.
I don’t want to see Paul get paralyzed or his skull caved in, but I’d love to see him sprawled out unconscious and slobbering. This is good TV, regardless of the wackadoo.
After the Francis-Fury shitshow, and going back to Holyfield’s “draw” loss, after even decades before that, there’s never been much legitimacy to pro boxing anyways.
