Stipe wasnt interim or no1 contender either, he was already in his 40s and years removed from his last win.
No1 contender at the time would have been Pavlovich i’m guessing, on account of being on a 6 fight streak of first round KOs. The “nobody” that Aspinall then fought instead and steamrolled in the first round.

Jon Jones is certainly the best LHW fighter ever. Jon Jones is in discussion as one of MMA’s GOATs. Top three at least. This Jones vs Stipe fight makes no sense at this point and it should be Jones vs Aspinall. Even if it would be a one sided fight, the only match up which interests me for Jones before he retires is Pereira.
This is a fucking abysmal excuse. When fighters are scheduled to fight and one guy pulls out, replacement fighters are put in all the time, sometimes the day of… yet Jon has held up the division for nearly two years just so he can have his little Stipe charity match because they were “scheduled”
