You are conflating wrestlefucking a few featherweight strikers with some sort of greatness.
GOATS dont win one fight and quit and we say “OMG he’s great”
GOATS prove the greatness over time. They win and HOLD the belt for many defenses. Goats clean out a division and have to rematch people they already defeated. They win titles in more than one weight class.
Things like that.
Alex Pereira has already done more than khabib, in a much shorter time.
Exactly. With GSP vs Khabib it would come down to a stylistic matchup. GSP believed his wrestling style would beat Khabib’s and unlike nearly everyone else I believe GSP when he says something like this because it isnt coming from ego, but rather analysis.
GSP beat would be champ after would be champ for a longggg time. Khabib would still have to be beating up and coming guys who havent even come about yet to be considered the clear GOAT
Just like Jones he eye-poked his way to victory vs Stipe. Their trilogy (stipe vs DC) was really the tale of eyepokes. Stipe finally said fuck you I can do the same as you won and DC was crying about it when he did it in the first place.
Jones was allowed to cheat with his fingers in his opponents eyes his whole career so we will never really know. He likely could have been clipped and lost if not able to do this, say if he were wearing pride gloves or the UFC refs actually enforced the fucking rules.
Khabib didn’t have a long enough career to be considered the GOAT. Although he was dominate and everyone who trained with him said he never lost a round. He has a Rickson like aura. Except he actually fought the best available in his short time.
Im a fan of Khabib and his crew. I still think we cant call him the GOAT because of the brevity of his career.
Although he, the exact opposite of Fedor, had a very safe style, the safest in MMA history, by being in a dominate positon on the ground, not standing and trading. So its likely he would have had many more wins. No one really tested him.
