The grappling was raw but effective. He just bullied the smaller guys but he did beat them all at their game and beat multiple guys.
He seems to have a really strong squeeze, like he can just crank your neck and get a sub. His leg lock defense was good enough. He relies too much on slipping the heel but it worked for him here.
I havent seen can openner passing in a long time
5 v 1 is 5 v1.
Impressive, he made it look like a gym session.
Overpowering little dudes is the best.
What’s old is new again.
As a big strong person, I have to admit, I have always found little guys figuring out my big guy bullshit more impressive. It is entertaining to smash cocky little hotshots and squeeze the shit out of them or smash them like a tube of toothpaste no doubt. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve tried less and less to grapple like a big guy and more to round out my entire game. I never go hard with small or less experienced guys anymore. If we roll, I want to challenge everyone and get them to a position that they are hitting what we work on in practice. There’s a lot to be said about playing to your strengths but as a coach I feel like I need to really be able to connect with the smaller players in the gym as well. I’m not going to be any kind of high level competitor in bjj. My role now is to make my teammates better.
To each their own.
Always been a Diamond Dallas fan. Great ring work.
I’m not the big or strong but I try to turn down the power moves or weight passing as much as possible when training with smaller guys.
This was at one of the bigger SA grappling events! A version of quintet.
This is what happens when you have Joe’s vs pros.
But add in a jacked Joe at peak alpha vs Joe’s who have their accounting job they need to go to tomorrow
Username checks out
As a smaller guy, it’s funny when the bigger, albiet lesser belted, guys grab a hold of me and just squeeze. Eventually they get tired and I can slip out and go on the attack. As we all progress I think both methods will be leas effective.
I generally like guys that use strength, it usually makes it easier for me to sweep or get them tired. It might be different if they were throwing punches but I try to train in a way where I’m not ripping myself off. I try to control their balance and posture so I couldn’t get blasted
Sounds like DDP is lucky he was just facing Gracie Barra noobs instead of you guys. They were too dumb to tire him out and sweep him lol.
Gracie McDojos
I couldnt beat ddp. I could make the match go the distance if I tried though, I think
Always watch for the Diamond Cutter. It could come from anywhere.
Even when you go to shake hands after a roll.
Lol, looks like he’s got 50+lbs on that first guy
