He makes no secret that money is important to him, so that he’d be fighting for some nerdy fantasy legacy league only people on the Internet care about is a ridiculous idea. He’s cashing out, and he’s at a point of his career where it makes sense to do that because there’s no consuming the drugs and alcohol he has without impacting his athletic ability. He’s also getting up there in age, so that’s a bad combination. Whether he’ll fight again or not after Stipe will be dictated by money. Not legacy. If more fighters had Jones’ mindset, there wouldn’t be so much complaining about paychecks.

He’s been done as a full time fighter for years.
This era of Jones is like when Floyd would come back every now and then to fight people like Victor Ortiz.
He’s not at his best anymore but he’s still pretty good and people will watch.
The only problem with it is Dana still pretends he’s the champion and the best. Jones-Stipe would sell the same as a nontitle one-off “legacy” fight. Aspinall should be promoted to undisputed champ.

And DC and Stipe traded some pretty significant eye pokes in their third fight. I think you could argue eye pokes benefitted Stipe more than Jon in his career. They use them very differently though. Jon uses threat of the poke to maintain distance, Stipe and Chuck used them to stop momentum shifts
I think if Cain didn’t spend years fighting the same two guys over and over again, he would have been beaten to fuck and back and people wouldn’t have been nearly as high on the hype train.
Drop Cain off in pride in 03-05 and he takes several bad losses.
His peak was the 205 GP like SIX years previously. Not after 3 double knee surgeries, of which you’re normally retired after ONE
