I think that was after his first or second knee surgery. He could barely get ready for that fight. If he wasn’t the highest level 205er to ever come along at that point, he’d have never won anymore fights.

The UFC is fucking up bad pushing this Jones vs Stipe fight. EVERYBODY has completely written Stipe off so badly, even in the media, that this is a no win for Jones.
If he comes out and clubs Stipe with some new random butterfly kick he learned in the first 6 seconds, it still won’t count for anything, and anything less than that kind of performance will have people talking shit. If he goes to a close decision, it’s over, if he loses, the UFC is fucked.
I think Jones is going to use this fight to gauge where he’s at before risking a fight against Aspinhall. Aspinhall was getting caught a lot vs Blaydes, who has Ryan Hall level striking.

Jon is pillowfisted though and looked awkward standing against Gane, Bladyes hits way harder. If Jon stops Stipe it will likely be be initated by a kick, elbow, or a knee. Stipe has wrestling and HW power. I think Jon wins a decision but doesn’t look great in the process.
I have to say though, while this isn’t a beauty pageant, Stipe looks physically better than Jon. He fills out his frame a lot better and he’s looking younger than Jon. If he is 80% of the old Stipe he could pull it off.

Oh yeah I haven’t forgot, Shogun looked great against Forrest. Don’t remember a whole lot about the Coleman rematch other than it was pretty easy for Shogun, I kinda zoned out on that one since Im also a fan of Mark/he was getting his ass kicked with ease.
This is my guess as well, he going to try an keep it going for a bit if he doesnt think Stipe still has it and gauge how he feels in there against a real HW. The last fight was over so quick you cant learn from it at all

Only at HW. His legacy at 205 is set but not heavy if he retires without facing Aspinall.
how many times did he get busted for PEDS like 100 times? hes not top a top 10 heavy weight all time let alone P4P because of that

Tom is the clear new young lion running through the division and is also a legitimate heavy with some grappling ability unlike the kickboxer Jones cherry picked in his lone HW fight. He avoided Ngannou like the plague and looks to be doing the same with Aspinall.

he has nothing to prove, although ever king falls eventually. He had already stated before the rise of Aspinall that Stipe would be his last fight prior to retiring. So, let’s see how it plays out . If he beats Stipe and retires then okay. If he loses and does not retire then I hope Aspinall gets his shot at him.

Jones ducked the killer HWs for years waiting for the division to thin out and just the right time to make his move.
He might be the best LHW ever, but no matter what happens with this fight, Jones can never be the GOAT HW.
There are several historic HWs that would have kicked his ass.
Most reasonable people should see this for the hollow legacy-padding bullshit it is.
I really hope Stipe knocks his ass out and ruins his little legacy party.
