Yeah that’s fair. I don’t get the whole “weight bully” nonsense people say about Jon and AP.
If day before weigh ins are the rules, and you aren’t cutting 10% of your body weight…you just aren’t doing things right. To my ears saying “he only won because he cut more weight” is like someone getting KOd and saying “yeah, but he only won because he did more striking and wouldn’t get in my guard.”
Weight cutting is part of the sport, whether we like it or not.
It’s incredibly hard to not slip on a banana peel and lose at heavyweight, history shows that across EVERY major fight promotion, it’s even harder when people can kick you in the face on the ground. Fedor did it for a LONG TIME while being smaller than most of these 185 weight cutting fags
Tito was one of the original to take full advantage.
And I clearly remember Anderson Silva saying he had no interest in fighting Jones, but would absolutely fight GSP.
Gee … I wonder why?
Jones was way bigger than his early LHW competition from the previous era.
By the time he started fighting other guys “his size” he was suddenly less dominant VS peak fighters his own size.
Gee… I wonder why…
Jones is a HW that could have moved up to HW and been normal among HWs over a fucking DECADE ago.
But he didn’t…
Gee… I wonder why…
We all know why.
And so does he.
Isn’t it ironic how such a great fighter can be such a pussy?
Do we give Stipe zero chance of beating Jones? Is he that shop worn we can just write him off? They are both 6’4 probably similar weight. Stipe has wrestling and can stop or reverse a takedown. He has better hands than jones as well. I know he’s old but maybe he will shock the world here
He’s not though. He cuts less weight than Tito did.
Jon’s cuts are not extreme. He is an average sized light heavyweight. He was not bigger than Bonnar. He wasn’t bigger than previous champions in Forest and Rampage. I think because he’s tall people think he’s some giant. He was lighter than DC
As for “by the time he was fighting guys his size…” it sounds like what you’re really saying to me is "by the time he was fighting bigger guys like Santos and OSP, and was already 6 years into his UFC run and the sport was starting to catch up.
Jones cuts from 225ish, he’d have been a comically undersized HW.
You can clearly see this illustrated in the fact that he took years to lift, looked nothing like his former self and was still 248 against Gane.
If you want to be mad at a LHW for unfairly cutting when no one else is, Tito is that guy. I hate Jon too, but I can’t suspend disbelief enough to pretend weight is a good reason to validate that hate
